The Omega Planet Ocean chronograph

I think I have missed my opportunity to purchase an Omega Planet Ocean chronograph at a decent price. Yeah sure, I can purchase one – but it will be at retail price. I like to think I am a pretty astute shopper for luxury goods, I want quality and most luxury retailers are willing to negotiate price. Prices are raised every year, so I am not paying 20%, 30% or even 40% more for the same watch.

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m

I love the Planet Ocean, this is a big timepiece; the reference 215.30.46.51.03.001 is the version I have wanted since I started looking. As the price has increased to $12,725, this is now well beyond my budget. I can only afford the Planet Ocean chronograph if I pick up another overseas job and with all the Australian covid restrictions that killed my opportunities, this is unlikely now.

So what do I like about the Planet Ocean chronograph? I have a large wrist so the size of the Planet Ocean is not an issue for me, the chronograph with screw-down pushers works for me, I am really annoyed that I did not pick one up at a cheaper price. At 44 mm and a 19 mm thickness, this is a big chunk of watch – too big for most.

So, I missed my chance, so what can I do now, probably nothing. I missed my chance, so maybe I should just rue my missed chance. This was before I picked up my Diver 300, to be fair, I am pretty happy with that. It is Omega, so whilst the movement, care, dial or bracelet do not match the Planet Ocean, really it does not matter. Yes, I would love a Planet Ocean, it is the best of the Seamaster series.
